Hope
Each porcelain paperclay envelope is embossed with the words from an Emily Dickinson poem, "Hope is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all."
When we lose someone we love, often their words abide with us. Their letters, emails and texts become precious artefacts in our grief. I have sealed the folds and tears with gold lustre to express healing and forgiveness and in some rare and beautiful cases reconciliation.
I am currently creating this body of work during lockdown and it also seems to resonate with this time. The words of our loves ones have become a balm in our new worlds of self isolation and separation. The gold speaks of our belonging and collective healing.
